From Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja
Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Friday disclosed that over N89 billion has been invested in infrastructure and education Bwari area council of Abuja. He noted that the rehabilitation of the Dutse-Bwari road alone accounted for N27 billion of this total.
According to a statement issued by Director of Press, Office of the Minister, Anthony Ogunleye, he made this disclosure when he commissioned the 5km Gaba-Tokulo road in Bwari Area Council, a key project aimed at enhancing infrastructure and connectivity in the region.
According to him, this was part of a broader initiative to fulfill President Bola Tinubu’s directive for infrastructural improvements across all six Area Councils in the Federal Capital Territory.
Wike while speaking detailed the significant financial investments made in Bwari, stating, “This Gaba-Tokulo road cost us not less than N7 billion. From Dutse coming to this area in Bwari, you see the total rehabilitation of the entire road, which has cost us not less than 27 billion. This is for this area council. The entire Ushafa, War College and all the roads in Ushafa have cost us not less than 28 billion Naira. Now, if you calculate for just road infrastructure for Bwari Area Council alone, it has taken 62.2 billion Naira.
“Now, in terms of education, the government just renovated the Government Secondary School (GSS) Dutse, Government Secondary School Bwari, Government Secondary School Ushafa, which is a new one, GSS Deidei, GSS Kubwa, and GSS Jibi. All these schools have cost us not less than 27 billion. Now, if you add N27 billion to N62 billion, you’re almost getting to N100 billion for one area council” the Minister explained”. Wike assured the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises under the Renewed Hope Agenda. “This is not just a promise; it is a reality,” he asserted,
The Minister also announced plans for two new police divisions in Igou and Ushafa, aimed at bolstering security in the area. “These divisions will be completed by May this year,” he confirmed.
In response to requests from Bwari Area Council Chairman, John Gabaya for further road extensions, Wike promised to consider additional projects that would enhance accessibility for residents. “We will ensure that the Tokulo-Kawu road is constructed as it is significant for our people,” he said.
