A former president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, is back in Nigeria after testifying before the International Chamber of Commerce, ICC, in Paris.

Buhari was one of the witnesses that was in court in connection with the $2.3 billion arbitration case filed by Sunrise Power.

His return to the country was confirmed by a former presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad.

Ahmad wrote on X on Friday: “Former President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Nigeria after defending the country before the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Paris in connection with the $2.3 billion arbitration case filed by Sunrise Power.”

Arogidigba Global Journal had reported that the Nigerian government debunked a report that it “forced” Buhari to testify during the arbitration proceeding in Paris. https://dailypost.ng/2025/01/19/nigerian-govt-clears-air-on-forcing-buhari-to-testify-in-paris-court/

The report claimed Buhari had been “hauled before the court on Saturday for breaching the terms of a power generation and distribution contract awarded to Sunrise Power and Transmission Company of Nigeria by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2003.”

It also alleged that the former president was “grilled for hours on Saturday and would continue his testimony on Sunday before the International Chamber of Commerce Court of Arbitration in Paris in case number 26260/SPN/AB/CPB.”

In a statement, the Presidency insisted everyone testifying in Nigeria’s defence “are doing so willingly.”
