The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has decried the rising wave of crimes involving women from Niger State and the Federal Capital Territory, assuring that the Force is taking proactive steps to address the issue.
This assurance comes with the recruitment of 83 additional female police constables out of 454 for both areas of operation.
During the passing-out parade of the 454 newly recruited constables at the police training school in Minna, Niger State, IGP Egbetokun emphasized the importance of upholding human rights principles and professionalism.
He noted that crimes involving women, such as terrorism, homicide, thuggery, and drug peddling, have been on the rise. However, the newly recruited 83 additional constables will help reverse this trend.
The IGP further disclosed that all constables will undergo training in intelligence gathering and other areas to ensure Nigerians see a redefined police force.
The Commandant of the training school, ACP Yunusa Wakili, charged the recruits to uphold professionalism, adhere to human rights principles, and protect the vulnerable in society.
The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, who represented Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, and the representative of the Emir of Minna, Alh. Farouk Bahago, expressed their commitment to supporting the police but called for more recruitment to address manpower shortages.
The 10,000 newly recruited police constables across the country will be posted to their states of origin to augment law enforcement efforts and reinforce the fight against crime at the grassroots level.
