Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday commissioned a newly reconstructed 5-kilometer dualized asphalt carriageway from Garage Junction to the Local Education Authority Secretariat in Kuje.
He said the project was part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at enhancing infrastructure and improving the quality of life for rural residents.
According to a statement issued by Director of Press, Office of the Minister, Anthony Ogunleye, during the commissioning ceremony, Wike emphasised the road’s significance for connectivity and local development. “This road will transform Kuje, making it easier for residents to access the city center without leaving their community,” he stated.
He also assured that the long-awaited completion of FCT Highway 105 is nearing fruition, a project initiated by a previous administration.
Wike announced a budget allocation of N50 billion approved by President Tinubu to improve water supply in satellite towns, including Kuje.
He remarked, “This initiative showcases our commitment to addressing critical water needs in the community.”
In response to a request from Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Abdullahi Mohammed for extending Highway 105 to Kwaku, Wike promised that necessary budget provisions would be included in future presentations to the National Assembly.
Wike urged community support for government initiatives, stating, “This administration is not about party politics; it’s about improving the lives of all Nigerians.” He highlighted the importance of collaboration between the government and citizens, noting that this administration seeks input from the people.
He expressed gratitude to the National Assembly for their support in achieving a 90% implementation rate for budgeted projects.
He praised Gilmor Construction Company for their quality work and urged other companies to contribute to community development.
As part of ongoing efforts, Wike announced plans for further infrastructure projects across the FCT, aiming to enhance mobility and economic growth.
Reiterating the FCT Administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability, Wike said the government owes a duty to the people to explain how taxpayers’ money is being spent.
He stressed that the series of project inaugurations was evidence of how taxpayers funds were being spent and announced that a grand celebration is planned for May to showcase the significant achievements of President Tinubu in the FCT within his first two years in office.
He said, “I have told people who care, ask us, when we say pay your ground rent, pay your money for C of O, ask us what are we doing with the money. We owe you a duty to let you know taxes paid must be used for the interest of the people.”
Earlier, the Coordinator, Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, while acknowledging the impact of the 5 kilometer dualized asphalt carriageway in Kuje, said it will enhance mobility, boost trade and foster unity among the people, adding that it will bring numerous benefits to both the residents and visitors of the area.
Chairman, Kuje Area Council also thanked President Tinubu and the FCT Minister for the provision of infrastructure in the FCT Area Councils.
