The Jigawa State Government has sanctioned the disbursement of N250 million for the purchase of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Foods (RUTF) to address the malnutrition emergency in the state.
The Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Sagir Musa Ahmed, announced this while addressing the media about the results of the State Executive Council meeting.
Ahmed stated that the choice is in line with Jigawa’s current collaboration with UNICEF to tackle malnutrition, especially in children. “This initiative highlights Governor Namadi’s dedication to enhancing the health and welfare of children in Jigawa State,” he stated. “The partnership with UNICEF is an essential measure in the fight against malnutrition and its adverse impacts on children.”
The commissioner emphasized that this initiative is a component of a wider health reform plan led by Governor Umar Namadi.
Malnutrition continues to be a significant problem in Nigeria, particularly in the northern regions, where food insecurity, poverty, and restricted access to healthcare exacerbate the situation.
