President of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, Festus Osifo, has said it may be difficult for people earning N200,000 monthly to survive.
According to him, N200,000 was relatively huge some few years back, but has lost its value in the current scheme of things.
The TUC President stated this when he appeared as a guest on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily to discuss government’s mechanisms to take care of the downtrodden.
“Some four to five years ago, you could say this is relatively huge amount of money but today when you talk about N200,000, it’s a far cry to what the value was as at even two years ago.
“That is why we feel that people in that bracket, things are difficult for them,” he said.
According to him, “Someone earning N2,500,000 annually in Nigeria today is relatively poor…. If you earn N208,000 monthly, you might spend half of that money on transportation costs, then you now talk of housing and clothing, it may be difficult for one to live.”
Meanwhile, Arogidigba Global Journal reports that as part of its suggestion on how to cushion the suffering of the people, the Association of Arewa Yoruba Youths (AAYY), had appealed to the federal government to pay the JAMB registration fees of all eligible students.
