Nigeria-eligible defender Michael Kayode underwent his medical at Brentford on Wednesday evening after the Premier League club reached an agreement with Fiorentina for his transfer, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development on X on Wednesday.
“Medical tests this evening for Michael Kayode at Brentford after loan deal sealed yesterday with Fiorentina. Here we go, confirmed,” Romano wrote.
The 20-year-old joined the Bees on loan with a €16m (£13.2m) option to make the move permanent at the end of the season, following his struggles for regular playing time under Fiorentina coach Raffaele Palladino this term.
The full-back had been restricted to just six starts in 12 competitive appearances this season, despite making 26 Serie A appearances in the previous campaign.
Born in Borgomanero, Italy, Kayode began his youth career at Juventus, spending seven years with the Turin giants before joining Serie D club Gozzano in 2020, where he scored two goals and provided two assists in 34 matches, helping the team secure promotion to Serie C.
He joined Fiorentina in 2021 and enjoyed success with their youth team, winning the Coppa Italia Primavera and Supercoppa Italiana Primavera before breaking into the first team.
The defender, who has represented Italy at U-18, U-19 and U-21 levels but remains eligible to play for Nigeria at the senior international level, had previously attracted interest from Liverpool before Brentford emerged as a frontrunner for his signature.
His arrival at the Gtech Community Stadium could pave the way for Danish full-back Mads Roerslev’s potential loan move to Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, who have already made an official proposal for the defender.
