The Delta State Police Command has made significant strides in combating crime with the recent arrest of suspected armed robbers, kidnappers, and cultists.
This effort led to the recovery of a G3 rifle, a pump-action gun, three Beretta pistols, and a locally fabricated firearm.
Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the safety of residents in the state.
On 17 January 2025, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) intercepted a tricycle during a stop-and-search operation along Ibusa Road in Asaba.
Two suspects, Ogochukwu Stephen, 25, and Christian Emmanuel, 24, were arrested. A search revealed two rounds of live 9mm ammunition, while further investigation led to the recovery of two fabricated Beretta pistols and an improvised firearm from their residences.
The same day, acting on a tip-off, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbarho Division led a team to the home of a 40-year-old suspect, Eriga Enyuche.
A search of his property uncovered a G3 rifle, a pump-action gun, and a cutlass concealed in the ceiling of his apartment. The suspect is in custody, and investigations are ongoing.
In another operation, the Bomadi Division responded to reports of suspected cultists brandishing weapons in Bomadi.
Acting swiftly, officers arrested Felix Emizibo, 29, on 18 January 2025. A fabricated Beretta pistol was recovered during the operation. Preliminary investigations revealed that Emizibo had purchased the weapon from his uncle for ₦150,000.
Edafe quoted Commissioner Abaniwonda as lauding the officers and operatives for their relentless efforts in tracking down criminal elements.
He emphasised the importance of collaboration between the police and the public, urging residents to provide credible and timely information to aid crime prevention.
He assured Deltans of the command’s determination to ensure a secure environment, stating, “The Delta State Police Command will not relent until criminals are flushed out of the state.”
The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, with further updates expected as the cases progress.
