An All Progressives Congress chieftain in Imo state, Chief Romanus Egbuladike, has called on the state governor, Senator Hope Uzordimma, to expedite action on the ongoing Awo-Omama-Okwudor road, which has long been abandoned by the contractor.
He said that the economic importance of the road was better imagined than expressed as it economically linked up the Onitsha-Owerri road (Trunk A) and Owerri-Orlu road (Trunk B) in Oru-East and Njaba local government areas of the state.
He did not fail to mention that if the road was revamped, the untold hardship business merchants face in conveying goods and services in the surrounding communities would be a thing of the past.
He also admonished Uzodimma not to forget the local government system as he pleaded with him to appoint meaningful sons and daughters of Oru-East Local Government Area extraction to some portfolios in the state democratic administration.
Egbuladike, a member of the National Merger Committee of the APC who spoke in a chat with some journalists in Owerri, advised President Bola Tinubu to ensure that the merger committee that formed the APC as a political party was not forgotten as a structure.
He said, “APC would not have been a successful party if not for the untiring efforts of men and women who came together to form and work towards its success. In that light, I would want and suggest a situation where President Tinubu, who was a protagonist/leading figure of the committee, do not allow the merger to be relegated or trampled upon. A house without a strong foundation collapses at any given time.”
Commending Tinubu for the removal of fuel subsidy, Egbuladike further admonished him to ensure that his democratic promises to the people were fervently kept and make a policy that would make the downtrodden feel the good impact of his government.
He added, “It took the courage of a man like President Tinubu to remove fuel subsidy. I say this because past Presidents avoided the removal, except Tinubu. As a Nigerian, I salute him for his courage and wish that the removal brings blessings to the entire country. President Tinubu should please see a way to accommodate the downtrodden in the society in his political policy.”
Egbuladike, who is also the pioneer National Deputy Welfare Secretary and the first state interim Chairman of the APC also congratulated Tinubu for the local government autonomy he granted the 774 local government councils in the country.
He said that if 75 per cent of the autonomy was put in place, the local government system in Nigeria would become the third tier of government and would bring peace to the local populace.
He thanked Mr President for the student loan he initiated, adding that he (the President) should ensure that the students, for who the loan was meant, get it.
He said, “But even if not all the students get the loan, that loan President Tinubu initiated is a very big relief to students and parents/guardians. It would go a long way to cushion most of the financial problems of students, parents and guardians.”
He further admonished the President to fire (disengage) any appointee who fails to generate ideas that would better his administration and the people.
Egbuladike thanked Governor Uzodimma for his infrastructural development in the state, mentioning the new flyover at Control Post, Owerri, the rehabilitation of the Orlu-Mgbee road among others in the Orlu geopolitical zone as splendid examples.
Egbuladike however, supported the Imo Charter of Equity that zoned the 2027 Imo governorship slot to Owerri (Imo East) senatorial district and pleaded with Uzodimma to ensure that the idea was actualized.
