American politician, diplomat, attorney, Marco Rubio, has been sworn-in as the United States Secretary of State.
The swearing-in which was monitored by our correspondent on Tuesday, was conducted by the Vice President, James Vance.
In his new role, Rubio is expected to play a pivotal part in shaping US foreign policy, particularly concerning relations with China and Latin America.
Recall that the US Senate, on Monday, confirmed Rubio as the Secretary of State, the first permanent member of Donald Trump’s cabinet barely hours after the new President was sworn in for the second time.
The Senate unanimously approved his nomination with a 99-0 vote.
During his appearance before the Senate foreign relations committee last week, Rubio embraced Trump’s “America First” vision on foreign policy, describing the new president’s approach to the global stage as a “commonsense realisation”.
Prior to his appointment, Rubio also held the position of Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives from 2006 to 2008.
His extensive experience in legislative roles is anticipated to influence his approach as the nation’s top diplomat.
