In compliance with President Bola Tinubu’s directive, victims of the Suleja, Niger State fuel tanker explosion have been transferred to tertiary medical centres for advanced care.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by Rabiu Ibrahim, the media aide to the Minister of Information and National Orientation.
The tragic incident occurred when a fuel tanker overturned, spilling its contents and attracting a crowd attempting to collect fuel. The subsequent explosion claimed over 80 lives.
Currently, 20 patients are receiving treatment at Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital in Abuja, while two others have been transferred to the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, Abuja.
Medical personnel and family members accompanied the patients to ensure a smooth transition to the designated facilities.
The Niger State Government has expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for its swift and effective response to the disaster.
The Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation has assured the public that it will closely monitor the situation and provide regular updates.
The statement read: “In line with the directive of President Bola Tinubu for the swift transfer of victims of the Suleja fuel tanker explosion to tertiary medical centres for enhanced medical attention, 20 patients have been admitted to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital in Abuja.
“Similarly, two additional patients have been transferred to the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, Abuja. All the patients were accompanied by a nurse and family members to the designated referral centres to ensure seamless care.
“The Niger State Government has expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for its prompt and effective response to this unfortunate incident.
“The Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide timely updates to Nigerians.”
