Social media users have continued to share mixed reactions over the appointment of an additional 100 special assistants by the Chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State, Chijioke Ihunwo.
Tribune Online reports that the council chair earlier this year announced the appointment of 130 special assistants.
In a new development, Ihunwo in a post on his X account on Saturday released the names of the additional 100 appointees.
According to him, the appointments are aimed at helping him achieve his plans for the people of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, adding that the appointments would take immediate effect.
He tweeted, “I have appointed an additional one hundred persons as Special Assistants to help me achieve my plans for my people.”
The announcement, however, has continued to spark different reactions from netizens. While some have opposed the development and condemned it entirely, others are of the opinion that the appointment is a means of eradicating unemployment in the local government area.
Reacting to the development, an X user, @ruleyourspace tweeted, “Why do you need so many assistants? Create roles where they will actually work to improve the lives of the people. Do not make this a carnival without a positive goal. When you leave power, the people you give fish will go back home hungry. You can do better than this.”
@AquarianGod1 wrote, “What exactly do you smoke or even sniff? If you become a governor, you will have one million special assistants. You have already started failing before the job starts. Obio Akpor people akugo aka na tipper bu ájá.“
“Another waste of public funds, at local government you’re already wasting funds that is not enough to transform your local area. I don’t know where you’re getting this type of template, calculate their annual salary, it will be enough to construct one good road for your people,” @figervEl opined.
Supporting the appointments, @OlakumleOg62542 tweeted, “Please appoint more it’s a good way to employ and empower your people kudos.”
Another user, @Ebiowei_KO wrote, “@AmbChijioke, the joy giver. Weldone. This is simply a strategic People empowerment. Kudos.”
“He is providing employment to his people. That’s what he’s supposed to do. Weldone Mayor!! @donmikoto stated.
