People of Ilobu in Irepodun Local Government and people of Ifon-Osun in Orolu Local Government of Osun State have engaged in allegation and counter-allegation over the killing of a polytechnic student.
A statement jointly signed by the President and Public Relations Officer of Ilobu-Asake Development Union, Pastor Olufemi Salako and Mr. Tairu Babatunde, yesterday, alleged that hoodlums from Ifon-Osun, yesterday, killed a student of the department of Computer Science, Westland Polytechnic, Ilobu.
They alleged that the hoodlums stormed Ganga and Oke-Ima areas around 11am and started shooting at every living and non-living objects in sight, and the student, whose identity was yet to be confirmed, fell victim of the shootings.
“We again reiterate our call on the Osun State Government to immediately summon Olufon to answer for these rounds of unprovoked attacks, maiming, killings and destruction of numerous properties that we have been experiencing in the last four days. Our patience and endurance is being stretched to breaking point at these unchallenged blood-letting,” the statement added.
Responding on behalf of Ifon-Osun, Jide Akinyooye, said the killing was perpetrated by the Ilobu killer gang.
“The gang have been going around causing carnage throughout the day before curfew was imposed. We don’t know anything about killing, our people don’t even go to that area because it is a buffer zone,” Akinyooye noted.
