The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has confirmed that The Lekki Headmaster, a novel by Kabir Alabi Garba, will serve as the reading text for the Use of English paper in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
In a tweet posted on its official handle (@JAMBHQ) at 3:07 PM on Wednesday, JAMB notified prospective candidates of the update and encouraged them to stay informed as registration details for the 2025 UTME/Direct Entry (DE) will be announced soon.
“Attention prospective 2025 UTME candidates! We are pleased to inform you that The Lekki Headmaster by Kabir Alabi Garba has been approved as the reading text for the Use of English.

“Further details regarding the UTME/DE registration will be shared shortly. Please stay tuned for updates,” the tweet stated.
This newly approved text replaces ‘The Life Changer’ by Khadija Abubakar Jalli, which had been used for recent UTME exams.
Earlier on Tuesday, The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) rejected allegations of overspending on meals, fumigation, and other expenses in 2024, calling the claims baseless and misleading.
During a session with the Joint Committee of the Senate and House of Representatives on Finance on Monday, January 13, 2025, JAMB clarified that its presentation was specifically about the 2025 budget proposal.
