The Oyo Scholars Congress (OSC) has congratulated Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade on his appointment as the new Alaafin of Oyo.

Tribune Online reports that Prince Owoade was announced on Friday by the Oyo state government as the successor for the late Lamidi Adeyemi III, the 44th Alaafin of Oyo who passed on two years ago.

Reacting to Owoade’s emergence as Alaafin, in a statement signed by the Convenors, Professor Seun Kolade and Professor Segun Oguntunji, the OSC described the development as “a historic moment that brings immense pride and joy to Oyo sons and daughters across the globe. The Alaafin’s throne, deeply rooted in our shared Yoruba heritage, now enters a new era of promise under your stewardship.”

Continuing, the Oyo Scholars Congress reminded the new Alaafin of the importance of the throne to the Yoruba people, charging him on unity, innovation and collective progress in the modern era.

“As the Alaafin, your ascension carries the profound responsibility of preserving the values and wisdom handed down through generations, while charting a visionary path for the future. The throne of Oyo stands as a rallying point for the Yoruba people, representing not only the strength of our history but also the boundless possibilities for unity, innovation, and collective progress in our modern era.

“This moment is also a call for all Yorubas to come together and celebrate the richness of our shared heritage. In a time when collaboration and unity are more important than ever, we are reminded that our strength lies in fostering mutual respect and working collectively towards the advancement of all our communities.

“At the Oyo Scholars Congress, we are particularly inspired by the possibilities of this new chapter. As a global network uniting scholars from Oyo Federal Constituency comprising Atiba, Afijio, Oyo East, and Oyo West local governments, we remain committed to supporting initiatives that align with the vision of a thriving, unified, and progressive Oyo. We pledge our collaborative expertise to further the goals of your reign and contribute meaningfully to the legacy of excellence that the Alaafin’s throne represents.

“Kabiyesi, we pray for divine wisdom, strength, and a peaceful reign. Ki ade o pe l’ori, ki bata pe l’ese. May your reign bring enduring blessings to Oyo and beyond,” the statement reads.
