Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has expressed optimism that with the experiences Azuta Mbata had garnered in various fields, taking the organisation to yet another level of growth was not in doubt.
“Sen Mbata your emergence is a testament to your outstanding leadership qualities, dedication, and the confidence reposed in you by our people.
“This pivotal role offers an opportunity to unite and advance the interests of our ethnic group, promoting our rich cultural heritage, values, and aspirations.
“I am confident that under your able leadership, you will continue to serve as a beacon of progress, fostering unity, development, and a stronger sense of identity among the Igbo people,” the governor said in a statement on Sunday.
He also pledged greater collaboration of his government with the apex Igbo socio-cultural body “to uplift our communities and address the challenges facing our people.”
Similarly, the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), extended its warmest congratulations to the new president-general, his deputy, Prince Okey Nwadinobi, Secretary General, Emeka Sibeudu and other National Executive Committee members.
President General of COSEYL, Goodluck Ibem said the momentous achievement reflected the trust and confidence that the members of Ohanaeze have in Mbata’s leadership, vision, and commitment to the growth and well-being of Igbo people.
“We acknowledge the immense responsibility that comes with this position, and we are confident that under your leadership, Ohanaeze will continue to flourish, preserve our rich cultural heritage, and foster unity among our people. Your passion for our cause, along with your dedication and experience, will undoubtedly guide us to new milestones.
“We look forward to working closely with you to achieve the goals and aspirations that unite us all. Together, we are certain that we will continue to make meaningful strides in preserving our traditions, promoting our culture, and contributing positively to the larger society.”
To renowned Igbo chieftain, Chief Goddy Uwazuruike, the election of the new executive of Ohanaeze was fit and proper.
According to him, under the Ohanaeze Constitution, the latest officers emerged from their various states, pointing out that there was no re-election nor extension in Ohanaeze.
“Positions or offices rotate among the states in alphabetical order. So we know that in the next elections, ie 2029, the president-general will be from Abia State. We are often attacked by naysayers who want the rotation principle scrapped.”
Uwazuruike charged the new president-general to be focused in his actions, in other words, serve Ndigbo diligently, without fear or favour.
He also had word of advice for those claiming to have factional Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
“Every 4 years, one can bet that some people will stay in their hotel rooms, craft a statement announcing themselves as the president and their cronies as the deputy president and secretary. They have never gone beyond the 3 positions. Then the imposters will deceive the gullible people for pecuniary purposes. My advice to them is to repent and apologize to Ndigbo for their sins.”
