Canada-based-Edo-born businessman, Dr. Joshua Osagie, has written to Governor Monday Okpebholo on ways to transform the transport sector from roads to rail and air transport.
In the letter tagged: “Edo Metrolink Investment Proposal to Revitalise Edo State Transport Sector”, Osagie argued that a transformed transport system promises the surest way to economic prosperity because of the multiplier effects that goes with transportation.
While congratulating the governor on his election and that of his deputy Dennis Idahosa, Osagie said his suggestion was in tandem with his administration’s agenda for sustainable development.
“I am pleased to present an investment proposal from a Canadian company for the “Edo Metrolink” initiative. This transformative project seeks to revitalise Edo State’s transport sector, position Edo Line as Nigeria’s leading state-run transport corporation while delivering substantial economic benefits to the state,” he wrote.
He said Phase one would involve revitalisation of Edo Line and Edo City Transportation. Leveraging advanced logistics technology and management expertise, this phase will modernise Edo Line and Edo City Transportation, enhance operational efficiency, service delivery and public trust.
“Phase 2 is development of rail infrastructure and this phase will focus on developing a rail network to connect major cities across Edo State, facilitating trade, reducing travel time, and boosting economic activity.
“Phase 3 is expansion into air transportation which is establishing air transport infrastructure that will seamlessly link land, rail, and air systems, creating a fully integrated transportation network.”
He said the final phase would integrate all transport modes using cutting-edge technology, ensuring sustainability and maximizing economic returns.
“The Edo Metrolink project promises numerous benefits, including job creation, enhanced mobility, and positioning Edo State as a transportation hub in Nigeria,” Osagie concluded in his letter.
