An explosion suspected to be bomb has destroyed a newly constructed bungalow at Umuneke, Mbieri in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo state.
The incident which occurred at about 1am, yesterday, caused panic in the area as some of the natives scampered for safety in neighbouring communities.
A source said the house was recently completed but nobody had moved in yet.
“We just heard a massive sound, which was heard in other villages. When we gathered the nerves to check the cause of the sound, we saw the newly completed bungalow in rubbles.
“The painful part is that the couple worked hard to build their house and were planning to move in February. We still don’t know what caused the explosion but it doesn’t look ordinary.
“We slept last night with one eye open but we’re hoping to get information on what really happened. Hopefully when the owners come, they will authorise proper inspection of the house”.
The state Police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, did not respond to calls when contacted.
