An explosion suspected to be a bomb has destroyed a newly constructed bungalow at Umuneke, Mbieri in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.
The incident which according to sources from the area occurred on Sunday morning at about 1 am, causing heavy panic in the area as some of the natives scampered for safety in neighbouring communities.
The source told our correspondent that the house was just recently completed but nobody had moved in yet.
“We just heard a massive sound, which was heard in other villages. When we gathered the nerves to check the cause of the sound, we saw the newly completed bungalow in rubbles.
“The painful part is that the couple worked hard to build their house and were planning to move in February. We still don’t know what caused the explosion but it doesn’t look ordinary.
“We slept last night with one eye open but we’re hoping to get information on what really happened. Hopefully when the owners come, they will authorise proper inspection of the house”.
The State Police spokesperson, Henry Okoye could not respond to his calls when contacted.
