Jigawa State Government has expressed concern over the increasing number of children suffering from malnutrition in rural areas, describing the situation as alarming and requiring urgent intervention.
Dr. Sambo Shehu, Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, disclosed this during a meeting with agency staff in his office.
He revealed that the state government has approved N250 million for the procurement of ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) to combat malnutrition.
DShehu highlighted priority areas for 2025, including routine immunization, antenatal and delivery services, and intensified efforts to address child malnutrition.
In a related development, the Executive Secretary officially handed over a newly constructed and furnished two-bedroom staff house to the management of Abaya Primary Healthcare Center in Dutse Local Government Area.
He noted that the housing project was one of seven similar facilities completed across the state, funded through a monetary gift from the Governors’ Forum.
Residents of Abaya community expressed their gratitude, pledging support for the government’s healthcare initiatives.
