Niger State Government has disclosed that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, has officially handed over regulatory oversight of the electricity market in the state to the Niger State Electricity Regulatory Commission, NSERC.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Digital Media and Strategy, Abdullberqy Usman Ebbo, in a post on X, said the move marks a new chapter of the state’s approach to managing its energy resources.

He explained that Governor Mohammed Bago described the development as a major victory as it empowers the state to take charge of its own electricity system.

Ebbo stated, “The recent decisions made by NSERC would bring electricity closer to the communities as NSERC will now be responsible for overseeing the electricity market and reposition Niger State to pursue greater energy independence and stability.”

Furthermore, the media aide disclosed that the development would enable the state to implement policies and initiatives tailored towards agricultural production, food security and job creation, among others.

He assured that government is committed to enhancing the reliability and efficiency of electricity supply towards fostering economic growth and development in the state.
