The Acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Umar Damagum, has urged social media practitioners and bloggers to refrain from spreading falsehoods that could incite unrest among party stakeholders.
Damagum gave this charge at the end of a two-day capacity-building workshop on Effective Media Awareness and Peace in the Political Arena for Social Media Handlers from Northwest states.
The training, organised by the PDP’s support group in Birnin Kebbi, aimed to strengthen the capacity of social media handlers and streamline their activities towards party cohesion and unity.
Represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Hon Yusuf Dingyadi, he emphasised the importance of propagating the party’s manifestos and visions, stating that the PDP is “bigger than any individual to destroy.”
The chairman commended the organisers and assured supporters and loyalists that there is no vacancy in the party leadership positions.
He condemned those aggravating internal differences within the party, urging them to stop breeding disharmony and political instability.
According to him, the current PDP leadership will continue to promote forgiveness, cohesion, and unity within the party.
Also speaking, the Head of Media Mobilisation and Political Awareness of the PDP Supporters Group in Nigeria, Dr Suleiman Aliyu-Gafai, described the leadership crisis within the party as a disappointment that negates the founding fathers’ vision.
Gafai called on party leaders and members to unite and strengthen the party’s unity, forgiveness, and discipline.
The workshop featured presentations, demonstrations, and historical facts on the PDP and northern Nigeria’s political unity, with over 50 participants from Katsina, Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states.
