“We mobilized ourselves to save the situation, but there was little we could do.”
Confirming the incident in a situation report made available to newsmen in Ibadan, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Rev. Akinyemi Akinyinka, said four shops were affected, and properties worth millions of naira were lost to the inferno.
The report reads, “The fire incident was reported to our agency at exactly 05:50 hours on Friday, 3rd January 2025, through GSM by Mrs. Adejoke regarding shops on fire at the above address.
“The personnel of the agency, led by ACFS Adediji, promptly deployed to the scene of the incident and arrived in time. On arrival, the four shops were already well alight. We quickly got to work, and the fire was restricted to where we met it.
“The four shops were destroyed by fire, while multiple shops were saved from being affected.
“Properties worth millions of naira were lost to the fire, but shops and materials worth billions were protected from the devastating fire.
“No life was lost. The fire was traced to an unattended naked flame left by a woman cooking in one of the four shops affected by the fire.”
