The Federal Inland Revenue Service, on Sunday, distributed food and non food items to some victims of the September 10th flooding and other vulnerable persons in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
The items comprised of bags of rice, mat, bags of suger, packs of detergents, bales of mosquito nets, coil, cooking oil, and tins of milo beverages were aļso distributed through a non-governmental organisation, Blessed Royal Jewel Foundation.
Leading the distribution as a representative of the Blessed Royal Jewel Foundation, a Nigerian actor and film producer, Uzee Usman, described the gesture as timely, considering the impact of the flood on the lives of the vulnerable residents.
According to Usman, “Blessed Royal Jewel Foundation brought me to maiduguri to come and support and help them distribute food material to the people who were affected by the flood and to the vulnerables who need these items at this festive period.
“I feel blessed to be part of those contributing to the society, especially to people who really need this support at this very moment,” he noted
On her part, the representative of the FIRS, Akpana Benedicta, said the gesture was aimed at assisting the vulnerables to lift the burden of the economic hardship caused by the recent flooding.
“FIRS is here to say sorry for the tragedy that befell the citizens here and the locals. We are here to support them with food items, provisions, toiletries, and the likes to ease them through this festive season.
“We would have been here earlier, but due to the work schedule, we had to postpone to this point, and so we are happy to be here,” she added
Benedicta further noted that the items were distributed to 300 victims as part of activities to celebrate the yuletide
“We have about 300 people here. So far, this is a little number we are able to accommodate. The essence is to say Merry Christmas to the flood victims in Borno State with these palliatives and support”
One of the beneficiaries, Abdulahi Bashir, who appreciated the gesture, said the items will serve his household in this trying time
“All thanks to the FIRS and Blessed Royal Jewel Foundation. We really appreciate this gesture and pray God to continue to bless Nigeria and Nigerians,” he said.
