Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has unveiled Zeva Premium Lager Beer, produced by the Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC) Limited, with a charge to the people to own, secure, and promote the company while drinking responsibly.
Alia stated that the unveiling represents a bold step in the ongoing transformation of Benue State towards economic rejuvenation, industrialisation, and sustainable development.
According to him, the production of Zeva Premium Lager Beer by BIPC is not only a significant milestone for the state but also demonstrates his administration’s determination to harness resources, build and revive dormant industries, and foster local economic growth.
He said: “The decision to embark on the construction of the Food Basket Brewery reflects the vision of this administration to leverage Benue State’s immense agricultural resources to drive industrial growth. As the ‘Food Basket of the Nation,’ Benue is endowed with abundant agricultural produce, yet the state has not fully capitalised on its potential for agro-based industrialisation.
“The brewery will create a sustainable value chain, turning agricultural raw materials like cassava, sorghum, millet, and maize into high-value products. This venture is more than a business; it is an economic strategy to boost our internally generated revenue (IGR), reduce dependence on federal allocations, create jobs for our teeming youth, address unemployment and foster economic stability, and empower our farmers by providing a guaranteed market for their produce.
“The brewery will also serve as a model for innovation and industrial excellence, positioning Benue as an attractive destination for both local and international investors.”
He said that BIPC remains a pivotal vehicle for achieving the vision of an industrialised Benue, as his administration has strengthened the company, repositioning it as a dynamic and innovative institution capable of driving industrialisation.
He enthused that through the BIPC, his administration has initiated various projects aimed at revitalising existing industries and establishing new ones, including the establishment of BIPC Bread, Water, polythene and nylon printing press, nails, and the brewery.
He appreciated the MD/CEO, Dr Raymond Asemakaha, the management, and the entire staff of the company for their relentless efforts, dedication, and commitment, which have brought about this historic moment.
He pledged the government’s continued support for the BIPC to enable it to achieve its mandate, adding: “We are committed to providing the necessary resources, policies, and infrastructure to ensure the sustained growth of this company and its contributions to the state’s economy.”
The Managing Director/CEO of BIPC, Dr Raymond Asemakaha, expressed gratitude to Governor Hyacinth Alia for providing an enabling environment for the company to effectively drive economic development in the state, saying that Zeva Premium Lager Beer represents more than just a new product.
While emphasising its significance in renewing commitment to the economic transformation and empowerment of the state, the MD said: “It is a symbol of innovation, resilience, and the indomitable Benue spirit. Zeva Premium Lager Beer is more than just a drink; it is a celebration of the Benue spirit, a spirit of resilience, determination, and excellence. This beer embodies the essence of our people and our land. It is a reminder that, together, we can overcome challenges and chart a path towards greatness.”
He expressed confidence that the business will contribute to the socio-economic development of the state, especially in improving GDP, providing direct and indirect employment, ensuring backward integration for Benue farmers, boosting economic activities, and increasing IGR for the government, among others.
Asemakaha called on all stakeholders—government officials, traditional leaders, private sector players, and indeed all citizens of Benue—to join hands with them as they embark on this transformative journey.
