The Niger State House of Assembly’s Standing Committee on Public Petitions and Privileges has expressed concern over the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) initiative’s inability to access counterpart funds necessary for executing projects in the past year.
This follows the announcement by the Executive Secretary of the SDGs, Hajiya Saratu Alfa Mohammed, that the projected budget for the SDGs in 2025 is N2 billion, to be jointly funded by the State and Federal Governments.
She, however, noted that no funds were accessed during the previous year.

She expressed optimism that counterpart funding would be released soon, enabling the execution of numerous projects within the state.
Hajiya Mohammed also expressed her gratitude to the committee members for their support of the SDGs and their intention to increase the budgetary allocation, which she described as minimal.
She highlighted that this financial constraint has made it difficult to pay casual staff and maintain their offices.
