The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), in collaboration with the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) Programme Phase II, hosted a human rights clinic to commemorate International Human Rights Day 2024.
The event, supported by funding from the European Union and implemented by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), brought together citizens, civil society organisations, and justice sector stakeholders in a unified effort to promote human rights awareness and accessibility.
The clinic, a mobile outreach initiative that was the centrepiece of the event, offered free consultations and legal assistance to citizens, especially those from vulnerable and indigent communities who face barriers to accessing NHRC offices. The RoLAC Programme Phase II, known for its commitment to justice sector reform and anti-corruption efforts, reinforced its support for the NHRC’s initiatives.
Speaking at the event, Pwanakei Dala, the RoLAC state coordinator, highlighted the significance of partnerships in advancing human rights, saying:
“Our collaboration with the NHRC demonstrates our shared commitment to ensuring justice, reducing gender-based violence, and building a society where human rights are respected and protected.
“This year’s commemoration not only celebrated progress in human rights advocacy but also served as a call to action for individuals, institutions, and the government to continue championing the cause.”
