A devastating fire broke out on Friday night at the Christ Apostolic Church in Ibadan, Oyo State, reportedly trapping several worshippers inside. The incident occurred around 9:30 pm on Olohunda Road, Lagelu Local Government Area, and was confirmed by sources on Saturday morning.
Eyewitnesses reported that some congregants had fallen asleep while preparing for a vigil when the fire erupted. One witness recounted, “Some people had already slept off when the fire started.” Another described the harrowing scene, saying, “An elderly woman who could barely walk was still inside the church when the fire was raging.”
The Oyo State Fire Service responded to the emergency after being alerted by a resident. The agency’s General Manager, Akinyemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident but stated that the cause of the blaze remains unknown.
“Our men were there based on information from one Kunle Junaid,” Akinyinka said, promising further updates.
