The Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has advised newly recruited police officers to always bear in mind that the primary purpose of carrying arms is to save lives and protect property, not for unprofessional practices.
The Police Commissioner gave the advice during a visit to the Police Training School (PTS), Nekede, where he addressed over 480 recruits, emphasizing the core values of integrity, professionalism, and public trust.
In a press statement by the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, CP Danjuma urged the recruits to align their actions with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to build a service-oriented police force that upholds the rule of law and fosters positive relationships with the public.
The CP highlighted the responsible use of firearms, stressing that force should only be used when necessary and in line with Force Order 237, ensuring that it is proportional to the threat and aimed at protecting lives.
According to the press statement, the Police Commissioner also inspected the training facilities to ensure they meet the necessary standards for producing well-informed officers.
He presented awards to outstanding recruits, including prizes for excellence in shooting range exercises, and distributed food items, such as a cow and bags of rice, for the recruits’ yuletide celebrations.
The Command’s spokesperson further stated that the Police Commissioner assessed various community policing projects at the training school, such as solar lights, a solar-powered borehole, and newly renovated classroom blocks.
“These projects, initiated by SP Shaba Gboyako, the Chief Security Officer to the State Governor, aim to improve the training environment. The improvements include 26 solar lights, a solar-powered borehole, freshly painted classroom blocks, and equipment like 80 plastic chairs, three public address systems, and a table tennis board,” the press release revealed.
ASP Okoye remarked that the visit highlights the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to developing officers who are not only skilled but also ethically grounded, ensuring they serve with integrity and professionalism to build public trust.
