Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Tuesday, launched the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem, urging Nigerians to extend support to the families of fallen soldiers and those injured in service to the nation.
The governor, while unveiling the emblem in Ilorin, also announced a donation of N10 million to the Nigerian Legion, the body responsible for catering to the welfare of the families of deceased soldiers and injured veterans.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, AbdulRazaq praised the sacrifices of Nigeria’s armed forces, describing their commitment as instrumental to the peace and unity of the nation and the global community.
“Let us remember the sacrifices of these gallant men and women who laid down their lives so that we may live in peace and harmony,” the governor said. “We, therefore, have a duty to show our appreciation by contributing generously towards the upkeep of their families.”
He emphasized that supporting the families of fallen heroes would send a strong message of gratitude and reassure serving officers that their sacrifices will never be forgotten.
The governor called on local government authorities in the state to mobilize grassroots support for the initiative, while urging citizens to recommit to the wellbeing of the Nigerian Legion and its objectives.
The event, attended by senior government officials, security chiefs, and members of the Nigerian Legion, highlighted the importance of recognizing the selfless service of the armed forces.
The Commissioner for Social Development, Olaitan Abosede Buraimoh, in her remarks, described the launch as a testament to the state’s commitment to honouring the sacrifices of Nigeria’s military personnel.
Chairman of the Nigerian Legion in Kwara State, Retired Brigadier-General Abdulkadir Anigiobi, expressed gratitude to the governor, noting his administration’s consistent support for the Legion.
“It is a privilege to have you as the first executive governor of this state to attend our emblem launch and donate generously,” Anigiobi said. He further appealed for continued government assistance, particularly in empowering members of the Legion.
The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is observed annually to honor fallen heroes and show solidarity with their families.
