Aviation workers at Ibom Airport have have hailed Akwa Ibom governor for upgrading facilities at Ibom International Airport, Uyo.
Speaking during the 2024 International Aviation Day Celebration, chairman of National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) , Ibom Airport chapter Mr Ukeme Utuk while commending Eno for providing top notched facilities at the Airport appealed for review of workers conditions.
“There is need for continuous technological advancements in aviation, particularly regarding safety systems and environmental sustainability.
Utuk urged government to address environmental impact of aviation adding that the increase in CO2 emissions and other pollutants from the sector is largely a result of aircraft technology and airport operations, not the actions of aviation workers themselves.
He said ongoing training and adaptation to new technologies were key to minimizing these issues and promoting greener aviation practices.
He advocated for enhanced safety measures and improved remuneration for workers to drive the sector’s growth and ensure continued safety and efficiency of operations.
The Chairman of the Ibom Airport Development Company Dr Iniobong Essien appreciated the Airport workers for their efforts and unity in celebrating the governor.
Essien acknowledged the governor’s consistent support for the sector, stressing that without such leadership, the current progress in Akwa Ibom’s aviation industry would not have been possible.
“We call for more investment in the Aviation sector for increased revenue for government,” he said.
