The Nigerian Senate has constituted a Committee to address concerns surrounding the Tax Reform Bills forwarded to the National Assembly for legislative attention.
The constitution of the Committee followed endless controversies trailing the bills with a high level of suspicion, particularly in the Northern part of the country.
Presiding over Wednesday’s Senate plenary, Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau charged the Committee members to find solutions to concerns before the bills are proceeded to public hearings.
The special Committee is to be headed by the Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro representing Benue South Senatorial District, the Committee was further asked to review contentious areas in the proposed controversial tax reform bills and revert to the Committee of the whole.
The Committee members are, Senators Titus Zam (APC, Benue North West), Orji Uzor Kalu, Abia North, Sani Musa, APC, Niger East, and Abdullahi Yahaya, Kebbi North, among others.
In his remarks, Barau insisted that there was a need to consult stakeholders including the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF and the executive arm, to resolve disagreements surrounding the bills.
