The Federal Civil Service has mobilised and screened no fewer than 4000 staff for the 2024 promotional examinations across the six geopolitical areas of the country.
The 2024 civil service promotional examination featured 14 cadres, which are administrative officers, executive officers, confidential secretaries, planning officers, stock verifiers, store officers, and program/system analysts
Others are computer engineers, data processing officers, librarians, library officers, statisticians, statistical officers and procurement officers.
The exercise was meant for eligible candidates on salary grade levels 06-13 under the common pool of the office of the head of the Civil Service Commission.
The Permanent Secretary of Career Management Office, Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Fatima Sugra-Mahmoud, said the Head of Civil Service is passionate about uplifting the welfare of public servants and has made staff welfare a top priority.
According to her, “This includes ensuring that motivated staff can improve productivity and providing opportunities for career advancement.
“By prioritising staff welfare, the government aims to create a positive and supportive work environment that encourages employees to excel.”
She also explained that the government has implemented various measures to support civil servants, including the introduction of computer-based tests and the expansion of digital infrastructure.
“These efforts aim to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the civil service. By leveraging technology and investing in employee development, the government is confident that it can create a more efficient and effective civil service.”
“The transition to a digital economy will require continued effort and investment. However, with a commitment to upskilling the workforce and providing opportunities for career advancement, the government is confident that it can create a more efficient and effective civil service.
“This, in turn, will enable the government to better serve citizens and drive economic growth.”
“As the government continues to implement its digital transformation strategy, it is essential to recognise the progress made so far.”
“The introduction of computer-based tests, the expansion of digital infrastructure, and the prioritisation of staff welfare are all significant steps towards creating a more efficient and effective civil service.”
“Looking ahead, the government will continue to invest in digital infrastructure and employee development. This will enable the civil service to better serve citizens and drive economic growth. By working together, the government, civil servants, and citizens can create a brighter future for all.”
She added that the transition to computer-based tests has been a long-standing goal, and while some areas have successfully implemented this change, others are still in the process.
“The main challenge has been ensuring that the necessary infrastructure is in place to support this transition.”
“In terms of digital literacy, it’s essential to address this issue to avoid exacerbating existing inequalities.
“The government is taking steps to improve digital literacy, particularly among civil servants. This includes providing training programs and resources to help employees develop the necessary skills.”
“The move towards e-governance is already underway, with various ministries and agencies working to implement this change.
“However, it’s crucial to approach this transition gradually to avoid disrupting existing systems. This requires careful planning, coordination, and communication among all stakeholders.”
“The ultimate goal is to create a fully digital economy, where services can be accessed easily and efficiently.
“This will require continued investment in digital infrastructure and a commitment to upskilling the workforce.
“By achieving this goal, the government aims to improve the overall quality of life for citizens and enhance the country’s competitiveness in the global economy,” she said.
