In another significant move towards youth empowerment, the Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, has empowered Southern Kaduna youths to undergo training in footwear manufacturing.
The youths are undergoing comprehensive training in shoemaking and leather craftsmanship at the Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST), Zaria.
The initiative is tailored to empower young Nigerians from Southern Kaduna through technical and vocational education, focusing on the art of shoemaking and leather craftsmanship.
Senator Katung, who spoke at a brief ceremony in Zaria, expressed his desire to continue supporting and empowering the youth to be self-reliant through various vocational training programs and initiatives.
Represented by the Zone 3 Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Danjuma Akuso, the Senator added that the objective of the training was to equip artisans with essential skills, ranging from footwear design to production.
The Senator emphasised that the initiative aims to address the pressing need to equip more individuals with skills, thereby reducing unemployment and poverty in the senatorial district.
Dr Jerry Tagang, who spoke on behalf of the Director General of the institute, commended the Senator for giving back to his people in such a magnificent way, adding that the truest test of leadership lies in the delivery of democratic dividends to the people.
