The World Health Organisation (WHO) hosted its 14th Joint Operational Review aimed at addressing the ongoing Grade 3 complex humanitarian crisis in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe States.
Speaking in Maiduguri on Wednesday during the event at the Indimi International Conference Centre, WHO Country Director Dr. Walter Molombo explained that the objective of the operational review was to strengthen WASH and nutrition resilience amidst the economic and security crises.
According to Dr. Molombo, the joint operational review was a collaborative effort between the Borno State Government, and the governments of Adamawa and Yobe states, to identify challenges, best practices, impacts on humanitarian responses, and limiting factors.

The WHO Country Director stated that the review would facilitate nutrition leadership in Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states, as well as combat malnutrition exacerbated by recent flooding, insecurity, and funding gaps in the North-East region.
Dr. Molombo assured that the operational review would create space for strategic humanitarian planning for HRP 2025, a multi-sectoral approach, localization, and stabilization, ensuring a coordinated and effective mental health response in emergency situations.
In his remarks, Borno’s Commissioner for Health and Human Resources, Professor BabaMalum Gana, reiterated the state government’s commitment to improving the healthcare system.
Professor Gana, who spoke in Maiduguri, expressed gratitude to the World Health Organization (WHO) for its support in addressing the humanitarian crisis in the state.
He assured that the state government would continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure the healthcare needs of the people are met.
