The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Agency has sealed a warehouse storing bags of rice palliatives worth over ₦1 billion.
The warehouse, located on Ring Road in Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state, was sealed on Tuesday. The Chairman of the agency, Muhuyi Rimin-Gado, alleged that 28 trucks of palliatives had been diverted by some individuals.
He further claimed that the bags of rice were being re-bagged into different brands, intended for sale in various markets across the state.
Rimin-Gado disclosed that a suspect had been arrested and confirmed that an investigation was underway to identify those responsible for the offence.
He described the diversion of the palliatives as an illegal and corrupt act that would not be tolerated by the anti-graft agency.
“We recovered a re-bagging machine used for repacking and re-bagging rice meant for the public,” he said.
“So, we are here based on investigative activities. We are armed with our search warrant, arrest warrant, and court order.”
He emphasised that the agency’s actions were supported by a court order and assured that all legal procedures would be followed to address the case.
