The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, has unveiled three groundbreaking initiatives aimed at transforming Nigeria’s civil service as part of the activities of her first 100 days in office under the theme “Marching to Greatness: Celebrating 100 Days.”
The initiatives which include Service-Wise GPT, an AI-driven assistant designed to enhance decision-making and efficiency among civil servants, GOVMail, a secure email platform for official communication, and the Nigeria Federal Civil Service Online Academy, which offers online courses for skill development, were during the launch in Abuja on November 21, 2024, noting that the initiatives will ensure that technology drives reforms and provide the foundation for a modernized Civil Service.
In a statement issued by Director, Information and Public Relations, Eno Olotu, she stated, “Today marks the realization of a vision that I pledged upon assuming office to harness the power of technology to reposition our Civil Service as a bastion of efficiency, professionalism, and service excellence”.
Walson-Jack emphasised that these tools are essential for modernizing the civil service and ensuring that it meets the needs of citizens effectively.
She explained that GOVMail will streamline workflows and secure communication, while Service-Wise GPT will provide instant access to vital information. “By leveraging AI, we are empowering civil servants to deliver prompt and effective service to Nigerians,” the Head of Service noted.
The Online Academy, she explained aims to equip civil servants with necessary competencies through tailored online courses. Walson-Jack remarked, “This academy will play a vital role in equipping our workforce with the competencies required to meet the challenges of a dynamic global landscape.”
The platforms were launched as beta versions to gather feedback from users, with Walson-Jack encouraging constructive input to refine these initiatives. “These initiatives are not merely tools; they represent a new mindset for our Civil Service,” she stated, highlighting a commitment to adaptability and exceptional service delivery.
Permanent Secretary of the Service Policies and Strategies Office, Deborah Odoh, praised Walson-Jack’s leadership, noting that her vision is steering the civil service towards excellence.
Permanent Secretary of the Career Management Office, Fatima Mahmood, expressed gratitude for Walson-Jack’s dedication to reforming the civil service, emphasizing that these digital tools showcase the power of collaboration and shared vision.
