No fewer than 500 elderly and physically challenged people benefited from the food relief support facilitated by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Labour, Employment, and Productivity, Senator Diket Plang, in the Plateau Central Senatorial District of Plateau State.
Speaking during the presentation of the food items in the Kanam Local Government Area of the state, Senator Plang, who represents the Plateau Central Senatorial District, said the gesture was carried out in collaboration with the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies to mitigate the economic hardships confronting Nigerians.

The senator, represented at the event by his Senior Legislative Aide, Evangelist Sam Mbok, explained that the elderly and physically challenged were specifically chosen as beneficiaries due to their vulnerability in these challenging times. He added that this initiative was also intended to complement President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to address food insecurity in the country.
Senator Plang noted that the president is not unaware of the economic situation in the country, hence the need for ongoing relief, particularly for the physically challenged, elderly, and widows nationwide.
“At this moment, it is crucial to support the most vulnerable, as they form an important part of society and should not be neglected,” he said. “We should cooperate with the federal government; the current difficulties are the result of essential economic reforms aimed at securing a better future for all Nigerians.”
He added that the distribution of relief items was part of the events marking his birthday, intended to bring smiles to the faces of the vulnerable in society and give them a sense of belonging.
Representatives of the beneficiaries, in separate remarks, expressed gratitude for the senator’s generosity, describing him as “God-sent” and praying that God would enable him to continue his good work.
