Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged the Nigerian police and the Speaker of the House of Representatives to immediately investigate recent reports against Alex Ikwechegh, a federal lawmaker.
Arogidigba Global Journal reported that Ikwechegh, a lawmaker from Abia State, assaulted a bolt taxi driver.
The Rep member also threatened to beat up the cabman and lock him up in his generator house.
Arogidigba Global Journal learnt the altercation followed a disagreement between the lawmaker and the taxi driver.
However, SERAP said impunity for violations of citizens’ rights must stop, insisting on ensuring accountability and justice for the violations.
“The Nigerian police and Speaker, House of Reps must immediately investigate reports that Mr Alex Ikwechegh, a lawmaker brutally assaulted a Bolt driver, and ensure accountability and justice for the violations. Impunity for violations of citizens’ rights MUST STOP,” SERAP posted on its X handle on Monday.
