A common consensus among professionals in different sectors of the economy, today, is the power of technology and the critical role it can play in enhancing their skill and deepening their practice. For them, the common saying: ‘innovate or die’, is no longer a buzz phrase, but nothing but the gospel truth for practitioners, desirous of staying relevance.
Therefore, the forthcoming annual NECCI Public Relations Roundtable, scheduled to hold in Lagos, later in the month of October, this year, will see the feminine gender, in the Public Relations (PR) practice, examine this critical subject , with the aim of establishing the extent to which their gender have made an impact and break barriers in the tech space.
Tagged “Women in Technology”, this year’s edition of the Roundtable aims at bringing together women leaders, innovators, and professionals in technology across the nation to celebrate, discuss and advance the role of women in the technology sector.
For instance, according to a study conducted by Deloitte, despite making up 33% of the tech-related workforce, the representation of women in tech is less than 3 in 10 people.
But, not a few experts, therefore, believed there is the need to cultivate an inclusive tech world where women would have a role to play.
Such belief is hinged on the argument that, despite being very few in number, compared to men in the tech ecosystem, the female specie are goal getters, innovative, resilient, audacious and daring, breaking barriers for a sustainable future, promoting tech leadership, digital skills and advocating gender equity reform.
The Founder/Convener, NECCI PR Rountable, Nkechi Ali-Balogun, explained that the quality of the resource persons expected to feature at the roundtable bears huge testimony to the determination of the organisers to exhaustively discuss this all-important subject, and make it count for the female folk.
According to her, the Country Manager, Microsoft Nigeria and Ghana, Ola Williams is expected to give the keynote address at the event, which will also feature top participants from the nation’s tech space.
Nkechi added that the networking sessions designed to foster collaboration and mentorship among attendees, will also include key players in the technology industry, innovative business leaders, and key opinion leaders in PR and other sectors, distinguished diplomats, publicists corporate communication executives, business development executives, entrepreneurs, and captains of industry, as well as general stakeholders within the economic and social sectors targeted by the current theme.
The event, she added, will also be used to recognise outstanding contributions by women in technology with the induction into the NECCI PR Roundtable Hall of Fame.
“The Women in Technology Roundtable is more than just an event; it is an initiative to empower women, promote diversity, and drive innovation in the tech industry. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn and gain insights from leading experts and stay ahead of the latest trends in technology.
“We are excited at the theme of this edition that embodies innovation and inclusion. Our main objective is to create a platform where women can share their experiences, inspire each other, and drive meaningful change in the tech industry. We would be celebrating and highlighting the giant strides of techy women,” Nkechi stated.
