A resident of Jibia, headquarters of Jibia Local Government Area, Katsina State, lost his life following a Saturday midnight attack on Unguwar Batsaka, quarters of the town.
According to a police statement on Sunday, hoodlums stormed the area, shooting sporadically and abducting six residents.
The statement by the Police Public Relations Office, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, explained that following a distress call, “the DPO Jibia mobilised a team of operatives in collaboration with the military, members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps and vigilantes to the scene, where they engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel that lasted about an hour, forcing the bandits to flee the scene with various degrees of bullet injuries.
“The team successfully rescued six kidnapping victims and were immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention due to injuries sustained as a result of the bandits’ attack. “Regrettably, one of the victims, simply identified as Rabe Mai Shayi, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
“Efforts are being intensified to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspects and we urge anyone with useful information on suspected criminal activities to promptly report at the nearest police station for timely and decisive action.”
