The Rivers State Government has approved a new minimum wage of N85,000 for civil servants in the state.
This development was announced by the Head of Service, George Nwaeke, following a closed-door meeting between Governor Siminalayi Fubara, labour leaders, and senior government officials.
Nwaeke confirmed that the implementation of the new minimum wage would take effect immediately.
In response, Chukwu Emecheta, Chairman of the Joint Negotiation Team, praised Governor Fubara for fulfilling the expectations of Rivers State workers, commending his dedication to their welfare.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Rivers State, Alex Agwanwor, expressed that the new minimum wage would immensely ease the economic challenges faced by workers in the state.
