The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has berated personnel of the Nigerian police force, armed forces, and other security agencies for stealing and selling arms and ammunition from their organizations to criminal groups terrorising the country.
He described security agents involved in the illicit deals as brutal and called for all hands to be on deck to stop the menace.
The NSA made this known during the destruction of arms by the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons.
The NSA, who rained curses on the security personnel who facilitate the movement of weapons to terrorists, bandits, and other non-state actors, said, “We have to find a way of putting a stop to this. We must if we want to recover our country and live in peace and stability.
“We must fight these people, but also, there are merchants of death and evil from outside the world.”
He said, “The proliferation of illicit small arms and light weapons remains a major threat to our national security, exacerbating issues such as insurgency, banditry, and other violent crimes.”
He added that the worst human being is a policeman or soldier who will take arms from his own formation and sell them or hide them for the bad people to come and kill his own colleagues.
