From Olanrewaju Lawal Birnin Kebbi
Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has flagged off N7.2 billion dualisation of the Argungu town road.
He said the dualisation of the road would pave the way for more developmental projects and beautification of the town just like other local government headquarters like Birnin Kebbi.
“I don’t know the difference between federal and state government roads because it is our people in the state that are using it. We want the Argungu Local Government headquarters of Argungu Emirate to look like any other Emirate headquarters, not only in Kebbi State, but in any other part of Nigeria.”
Governor Idris also disclosed that his administration would kick off the rehabilitation of the Argungu General Hospital with the supply of modern equipment.
He described the hospital as the worst ranked among the general hospitals in the state.
Earlier, Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Muhammad Samaila Mera, who presented the Argungu Emirate Council letter of confirmation of the traditional title of ‘Jigon-Kabi’ to the governor, said the Emirate was happy with him over the many projects in the area.
He added that there was no single ministry in the state that does not have one or two projects executed or on-going in the Argungu Emirate.
The Managing Director of the AMIRCO Universal Concept, Dr. Hassan Mahdi, promised the government that the projects would be completed within six months. He stressed that all their equipment have been mobilised and planned to be getting the asphalt within the Argungu.
The Commissioner for Works, Abdullahi Faruq-Muslim said the 6.4 kilometre dual carriageway township road was awarded to Amirco Universal Concept for N7,230,373,515.
The commissioner lauded the governor for choosing a qualified construction company to execute the project, which has a 12 months completion period.
He listed some projects executed by the present administration to include completion of the dualised Birnin Kebbi – Ambursa Road and completion of a multi-billion Naira ultra-model secretariat complex.
Others, according to him, are renewal and dualisation of Birnin Kebbi township roads to give the state capital a befitting outlook, construction of a new motor park in the state capital which would soon be commissioned and construction of an aeroplane filling station at Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport.
“Construction of this aeroplane filling station motivated the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to approve the inaugural flag-off of 2024 pilgrims airlift from Birnin Kebbi to Saudi Arabia,” he said.
