Vice President Kashim Shettima has consoled the family of the first civilian governor of Abia State and former Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Ogbonnaya Onu, on his passing.
Onu, who was a minister under former President Muhammadu Buhari, died in an Abuja hospital on April 11 at the age of 72 years.
In a letter addressed to the family and personally signed by him, Shettima described Onu as an exceptional figure who served Nigeria with passion, integrity and a remarkable vision for the future, “whose contributions to the nation’s development particularly in the field of Science and Technology, and Innovation are well-known and respected.
He noted that as a man of great character, humility, and wisdom, his legacy will undoubtedly continue to shape the nation’s path for generations to come.
The letter reads: “As a former Minister of Science and Technology, his leadership and advocacy for Scientific advancement made a lasting impact on Nigeria’s economic growth and the progress of countless individuals.
“Beyond his professional contributions, Dr. Onu was a man of great character, humility and wisdom. He inspired not only those in his immediate circle, but the entire nation with his tireless work ethics; dedication to public service, and commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians.
“He was a role model to many and will be remembered as a statesman who embodied the values of patriotism and service to humanity.
“Though words cannot fully capture the depth of your loss, I want you to know that my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.”
