The Nigerian Youth Leaders, CONYL, the umbrella body of all the youth groups drawn across the six geo-political zones has condemned in strongest terms the destruction, looting and burning of local government infrastructures by yet to be identified criminals in Rivers State.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Owerri by the President General of CONYL, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, the group frowned at what they described as political crisis that have bedeviled Rivers State wherein Eleme and other local government council headquarters were set ablaze by hoodlums after the conduct of a successful, transparent and credible local government elections in the state.
He regretted that criminals working in tandem with a political interest whose goal and objectives are anti-democratic and anti-people given what has just happened where government infrastructures built with taxpayers money were destroyed and burnt.

He said, “what has just happened in the state is no longer politics, but wickedness taken too far and the perpetrators must be made to face the full music of the law to serve as deterrent to others”.
CONYL called on the Executive Governor of the State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara to come to grips with and confront headlong his challenges in the state in other to enjoy peace and development in the state.
According to him the Governor must know that he cannot get peace by begging for Peace but he can only achieve peace by standing fiercely against any force opposed to the progress and development of the state.
Ibem called on all and sundry to stand solidly behind Governor Fubara as he take the state back from those who are hell-bent on destroying the peace the people are currently enjoying.
The youth group called on the security agencies to arrest and prosecute those behind the arson in the state while ensuring that no stone is left unturned until all those involved in this barbaric acts are brought to book.
