The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), Honourable Al-Hassan Doguwa, has criticised the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for claiming that Nigerians will vote out the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 polls.
Doguwa described Kwankwaso’s statement as an indication that he has “lost political focus and reality on the ground.”
Doguwa further remarked, “No matter the noise Kwankwaso makes, the APC in Kano is already poised to unseat the Kangaroo NNPP government in Kano State come 2027 following the non-performance, loss of people’s confidence, and breach of electoral confidence of the NNPP.”
It should be recalled that Kwankwaso, who is also a former Kano State governor, stated during a political gathering in Kano on Thursday that Nigerians, especially Northerners, are tired of the APC and would replace it in the 2027 presidential election.
However, in a statement on Friday, Doguwa said Kwankwaso had yet to recover from the defeat he suffered at the hands of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election. “He is hallucinating about 2027,” Doguwa claimed.
He continued, “We members of the APC in the House of Representatives have realised that Kwankwaso took his hallucination to the moon when he said Nigerians are tired of APC and will change it in 2027.”
Doguwa urged Kwankwaso to stop his “hallucinations” and prepare for his imminent retirement from politics in 2027. He further called on Kwankwaso to “stop remote controlling the Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf,” stating, “The disgruntled NNPP government has already lost focus and fell out with the good people of Kano State.”
Doguwa said Kwankwaso lacks the moral authority to speak for the people of the North, adding that Kwankwaso’s assertion was a “whimsical statement applicable to himself.”
Honourable Al-Hassan Doguwa, who represents Tudun Wada/Doguwa Federal Constituency of Kano State, highlighted several accomplishments of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, noting that “President Tinubu is not leaving any stone unturned in his quest to return our country to the path of progress and prosperity for the benefit of all.”
Doguwa emphasised that President Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, when the economy was in dire straits, but since then, he has been making significant strides to correct fiscal misalignments. He disclosed that the country has attracted more than $30 billion in foreign direct investments within 16 months of Tinubu’s leadership, while also clearing a forex backlog of $7 billion and resolving over N30 trillion in inherited debts from the previous administration.
Furthermore, Doguwa pointed out that Tinubu has reduced the debt service ratio from 97% to 68% and maintained the foreign reserve at $37 billion. The Economic Stabilisation Bills transmitted to the National Assembly this week, according to him, are expected to further enhance the country’s productive capacity, create jobs, and foster prosperity.
In terms of security, Doguwa mentioned the government’s success in eliminating over 300 Boko Haram and bandit commanders, including Kachalla Halilu Sububu, a notorious figure who had terrorised people in Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, and Kaduna for more than five years. “A fresh air is already permeating the North West in view of the onslaught against these bandits. Our people are now returning to their farms. We pray for a bumper harvest,” he said.
He also expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for establishing the North West Development Commission, aimed at speeding up the reconstruction and rebuilding of the region, which he described as the “food basket” of Nigeria. Doguwa concluded by expressing optimism that the hardship currently faced in the country will ease in the coming months as the president’s various interventions begin to bear fruit.
