The State Working Committee of the Labour Party in Cross River State expresses appreciation to the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC), chaired by Dr Ekong Boco, for its efforts to streamline the electoral process, paving the way for credible local government elections in the state.
Recognising the benefits of engaging local governance, the Labour Party led by Patriarch Ogar Osim, in alignment with the vision of IPAC in Cross River, urges all stakeholders to operate within the law to ensure the success of the upcoming local government elections scheduled for October 26, 2024.
The Labour Party reiterates its warning to CROSIEC and all involved parties to be vigilant against imposters like Mr John Ushie, a member of the PDP, and his associates, who are attempting to misrepresent the Labour Party’s leadership in order to mislead unsuspecting citizens and hinder the election process.
“We strongly advise the public to disregard Mr John Ushie and his group of impostors, as they have no affiliation with the Labour Party at any level. Although they claim they can manipulate the law to legitimise their actions with their limited resources, they have failed, given that CROSIEC is a legal authority that will uphold its commitment to delivering free, fair, credible, and transparent elections to enhance democracy within the state.
“We commend the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, for wisely appointing qualified and principled individuals to lead CROSIEC during this pivotal period of political transformation aimed at fostering a better and more prosperous Cross River State.
The Labour Party in Cross River also acknowledges the essential role played by IPAC, under the leadership of Engr. Edet Effiom, in facilitating the participation of all legally recognised political parties within the IPAC framework in shaping governance at the grassroots level.
“For clarity, the State Executive Council of the Labour Party in Cross River, led by Patriarch Ogar Osim, was legitimately elected during a State Congress held at the Etaval Hotel in Calabar in March 2022, securing a four-year term as per the party’s constitution.
“This Congress was properly overseen by INEC officials and is recognised by all legal institutions in Nigeria, affirming Patriarch Ogar Osim as the legitimate Chairman of the Labour Party in Cross River.
