The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has restated its commitment to collaborate with the Federal Road Safety Corps to minimise road traffic crashes in the state.
The Speaker of the assembly, Mr Danladi Jatau, said this when Mrs. Lucie Samuel, the Sector Commander of the corps in the state visited him on Tuesday in Lafia.
The speaker said that such a move would ensure the safety of lives and property in the state.
Jatau also assured the sector commander of the assembly’s support to enable her to succeed.
“I want to commend the entire FRSC family for the wonderful work you are doing toward the safe of lives and property.
“I want to assure you that we will support you to succeed in implementing your programmes and policies in the state,” he said.
The speaker called for continued sensitisation of motorists and other road users on proper safety measures.
Earlier, the sector commander said that the visit was to familiarise herself with the assembly and discuss possible ways of collaboration toward promoting safety measures on highways in the state.
”We are here to seek your support to enable us to succeed in our bid toward a safer highway in the state,” she said.
Samuel identified overloading, speeding, dangerous overtaking, and disregard for traffic rules and regulations, among others as major causes of road accidents in the country.
She, however, disclosed that the command was planning to organise a special patrol and sensitisation programme aimed at reducing accidents on highways.
