The Minister of Information, Alhaji Muhammed Idris, on Thursday said the Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government remains resolute in its avowed commitment to making life bearable for the citizenry, no matter what.
The minister spoke in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, at a town hall meeting on Federal Government’s intervention programmes, especially after the oil subsidy removal, at both State and Local Government levels.
Represented on the occasion by the Head of the Federal Information and Resource Centre in Ekiti, Mrs. Omotola Yemisi, he said the present administration does not handle issues affecting the welfare and well-being of the citizens with kid gloves, assuring that whatever hardship they may be experiencing as a result of some of its policies would only be temporary.
The minister said the government recognized the importance of meaningful engagement in governance, hence the reason for organizing the town hall meeting between it and the Nigerian people, to provide a platform for constructive dialogue.
He explained that such engagement would also ensure that the benefits of government interventions can reach all Nigerians.
“We recognize that the removal of the fuel subsidy presents both challenges and opportunities.
“We shall explore ways to mitigate the impact of this policy change on our citizens and also ensure that the benefits of such decisions are equitably distributed.
“Be assured that our goal is to create an enabling environment that supports economic growth and development by tapping into all available social schemes,” he said.
Speaking, Mrs Famuyiwa Olawumi, the Director-General of the Ekiti Bureau of Civic Orientation, urged Nigerians to give the government time to allow some of its policies to see the light of day through cooperation and law-abiding behavior.
Earlier, in a welcome address, the State Commissioner for Information, Chief Taiwo Olatunbosun, represented by Dr. Yusuf Habibat, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for its areas of intervention in the state so far.
The commissioner pledged the State’s continued partnership with the Tinubu administration so that its good intentions and plans for Nigeria can come to fruition.
